Through the week

What's on

Quiz nights, live sport, the Sunday carvery and whatever the season brings. A working village pub rather than an events venue, which is rather the point.

The Little John runs a quiz, shows live sport on screens in the bar, and serves a carvery every Sunday from noon until 8pm. The function room can be booked for groups of up to 35. For dated events, the quickest source is our Facebook page or a call to the bar on 01433 650225.

Most of what happens here is not an event. It is a Tuesday with the fire lit, a Saturday with the football on, a Sunday that starts at noon and does not really stop. That is what a local is, and we would rather do that well than fill a calendar for the sake of it.

What happens most weeks

Dates for one-off events go up on Facebook. These are the fixtures.

Sunday carvery

Every Sunday, noon until 8pm, £16.95. Locally reared meats, Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings. The busiest service of our week, and it does sell out.

Quiz night

A proper pub quiz with a proper pub prize. Nights move with the season, so check Facebook or ask at the bar for the next one.

Live sport

Screens in the bar for the big games, at a volume that still lets the rest of the room talk. Darts and pool carry on regardless.

Through the year

Seasons rather than a calendar

The menus change with what the valley is producing, so spring and autumn look different on the plate. The fire goes on around October and stays lit until it is genuinely not needed.

December is the exception: a festive menu, party bookings in the function room, and a village that turns out. Worth booking early rather than hopefully.
