The Little John in Hathersage is operated by The Bank House Bar & Restaurant Ltd, part of The Northern Collective. Booking a table costs nothing to hold and nothing to cancel. For rooms and cottages, a £50 charge per booking applies if you cancel within 48 hours of your arrival date and time, and the card you booked with can be charged after you leave for damage beyond reasonable wear and tear. Check-in is from mid-afternoon until 10pm, and not later.

Who we are
The business behind the bar
The Little John is a public house with rooms at Station Road, Hathersage, Hope Valley, Derbyshire S32 1DD. It is operated by The Bank House Bar & Restaurant Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 10348087, whose registered office is The Glass House, Hathersage Hall Business Centre, Main Road, Hathersage, Hope Valley S32 1BB.
The Little John is part of The Northern Collective, a group of independent pubs, restaurants and places to stay. Each venue has its own terms, and these ones cover The Little John only. Where this page says "we" or "us", it means the company above; "you" means anyone who books with us, stays with us or uses this website.
These terms sit alongside our privacy policy, which explains what we do with your information. Nothing on this page affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Booking a table
Tables can be booked on our Book a Table page, which uses Stampede, or by telephone on 01433 650225. There is no deposit, no card and no cancellation charge for a standard table.
If your plans change, please let us know as early as you can so we can give the table to somebody else. If you are running late, a call means we can keep it for you.
Large groups, functions and parties are arranged with us directly, and any particular terms, such as numbers, menus or a deposit, will be agreed with you and confirmed in writing before the booking is fixed. See Functions & Parties.
Allergies and intolerances. Please tell your server about any allergy or intolerance when you order, every time, even if you mentioned it when you booked. Our kitchen handles all the major allergens, so while we will tell you what is in a dish and take care in preparing it, we cannot guarantee any dish is completely free from traces of them.
Menus, prices and dishes change with the seasons and with what our suppliers have. The menus on this website are a guide, and the prices charged are those on the menu in the pub on the day.
As licensed premises we are required by law to refuse to sell alcohol to anyone under 18 or anyone who appears to be drunk, and we may ask for proof of age. We may ask anyone whose behaviour puts other customers or our staff at risk to leave.

Rooms and cottages
Rooms and cottages can be booked online through Q-Book from our Book a Stay page, or by telephone or email. Your booking is confirmed once you have received a confirmation from us or our booking system. The price is the one shown when you book. Bedrooms are bed and breakfast; the cottages are self-catering.
If you book through an agency such as Booking.com, Expedia or Airbnb, that agency's own terms, including its cancellation policy, apply to the booking you made with them, alongside these terms while you are here.
Check-in is from mid-afternoon until 10pm. We are not able to check anybody in after 10pm, so please plan to arrive in good time. Check-out is mid-morning, and the exact times are given with your booking confirmation. If you arrive after 10pm without having arranged it with us, we may not be able to let you in, and the booking will be treated as a cancellation inside 48 hours.
Our bedrooms are above a working pub. The bar is open every day until midnight, and we host quiz nights and live music. That is part of staying at a village local, and we ask you to book with it in mind.
Dogs are welcome in both cottages and in most of the bedrooms. Please tell us when you book so we can put you in a room that takes them. Dogs must not be left alone in a room or cottage, and are not allowed on beds or furniture. You are responsible for your dog's behaviour and for any damage or extra cleaning it causes.
Smoking and vaping are not allowed anywhere inside the building, including in bedrooms and cottages. Where smoking in a room or cottage leaves it needing specialist cleaning before it can be let again, that is treated as damage under the section below.
A room or cottage may be occupied only by the number of guests named on the booking. Please look after your belongings: leave valuables at home or keep them with you, and lock your room or cottage when you go out.

Deposits, cancellations and damage
Cancellations. If you cancel your booking within 48 hours of the scheduled arrival date and time, a £50 cancellation charge will apply. The charge is per booking, not per room or per night. Not arriving at all is treated the same way. The cancellation charge will be taken from the payment card used to make the booking. We will retain the information necessary to record the charge, the booking it relates to, and any associated correspondence or refund. We do not receive or store your full card number.
Damage to the property. You are responsible for any damage caused to the property, its contents, fixtures or fittings during your stay, beyond reasonable wear and tear. If damage is identified following your stay, we reserve the right to charge the payment card used to make your booking after you have checked out.
Any charge made will reflect the reasonable costs incurred by the business as a result of the damage. This may include the reasonable cost of repairing or replacing damaged items, specialist cleaning where required, and other direct costs reasonably incurred in putting the property back into the condition it was in before your stay. We will tell you about any damage charge before or when it is taken, with the reason for it, and if you disagree with it you can contact us using the details at the foot of this page.
Where a damage charge is made, we will keep a record of the amount charged, the reason for the charge and any relevant supporting information or correspondence.
Your card details. Payment information is handled by our booking or payment provider. We use the payment details associated with your booking to process any applicable cancellation or damage charge, but we do not receive or store your full card details.
We process this information where necessary to administer your booking and our contract with you, including dealing with cancellations, damage and other charges arising from your stay. We may also retain relevant records where necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim and to comply with our legal and accounting obligations. The privacy policy says how long we keep them.
If we have to cancel. In the unlikely event that we cannot provide your room or cottage, for example because of a flood, a failure of water or power, or another event outside our control, we will tell you as soon as we can and refund anything you have paid for the nights affected, or move the booking to other dates if you would prefer.
Responsibility
What we are responsible for
We will provide what you have booked with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
Otherwise, we are not responsible for loss or damage that was not a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms, or for losses relating to any business you carry on. Our responsibility for guests' property while staying with us is subject to the Hotel Proprietors Act 1956.
